The Defense Science Board has appointed Joan Hoffmann, a physicist of Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, to DSB's Task Force on Applications of Quantum Technologies.
She will help explore potential uses of quantum technology in subsurface, land and sea and subsurface missions, APL said Tuesday.
The task force aims to determine the readiness level, general research and development status, commercial and military applications and ancillary implementation requirements of such technology, according to the laboratory.
Hoffmann manages the Alternative Computing Paradigms program at APL and helped form the research center's quantum information science team composed of nearly 20 scientists engaged in experimental, operational and theoretical approaches.
