Raytheon has received a $32.9M contract modification from the U.S. Navy to develop a small programmable craft designed to counter adversarial integrated air defense systems.

The company's missile systems business will perform engineering and manufacturing development work on the Miniature Air Launched Decoy-Navy variant, the Department of Defense said Wednesday.

The EMD phase is scheduled to conclude in July 2021.

The Navy initially awarded the company a $46.6M cost-plus-fixed-fee contract in September of last year to conduct risk reduction and technical maturation efforts under the MALD-N program. Before that, the U.S. Air Force ordered similar decoys under a $96.1M contract.

Naval Air Systems Command will obligate $16.1M in fiscal 2019 research, development, test and evaluation funds for the modification.

MALD works by imitating combat flight signatures of U.S. and allied aircraft units to deceive and neutralize an enemy's IADS.
