NovAtel has received a contract of an undisclosed value to manufacture 40 signal generators for ground uplink stations to support a Federal Aviation Administration-built aircraft navigation system.
The company said Thursday it will update and extend support for the FAA’s GUS infrastructure as part of Wide Area Augmentation System modernization efforts.
Contract work will also include engineering support for Satellite Based Augmentation System equipment the agency uses.
FAA developed the WAAS network to aid a vehicle in different flight phases via the U.S. global positioning system.
NovAtel’s technology is designed to generate and process data for pilots to manage the aircraft’s approach to an airport and the company said it will design next-generation generators with L1 and L5 signal paths.
The agency uses company-made platform to obtain GPS receiver measurement and navigation data from WAAS reference stations as well as GUS infrastructure.
