The U.S. Navy is looking to enter a deal with Northrop Grumman to conduct a technical study for the integration of a next-generation satellite communications system into the service’s E-2D Advanced Hawkeye aircraft.
The Navy announced the potential sole-source, firm-fixed-price contract for the Falls Church, Va.-based company in a FedBizOpps notice posted Thursday.
Under the contract, Northrop will integrate the Mobile User Objective Systems into the dual satellite communications channels on Hawkeye.
“As the sole designer, developer and manufacturer of the E-2D aircraft, [Northrop] is the only source with the requisite knowledge, experience and technical expertise to provide the required supplies and services,†the Navy said in the FBO notice.
The service expects to award the contract in August and work will run through May 2020 from the date of award.
