Lockheed Martin and the Surface Navy Association have introduced a potential five-year, $50K scholarship program to help students pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

The partnership intends to select four students every year to receive $2,500 each year and is scheduled to announce this year’s recipients in spring, Lockheed said Thursday.

“In order for our nation and its allies to remain globally competitive, we must continue to invest in our future and develop a workforce that has the skills necessary to compete in today’s high-tech economy,” said Paul Lemmo, vice president and general manager of Lockheed’s integrated warfare systems and sensors business.

The Bethesda, Md.-based company has donated $60M to STEM education programs over the past year and also seeks to engage with students through mentorships, internships and competitions.
