A joint venture between Lockheed Martin and Raytheon has received a contract to commence initial full-rate production of updated Javelin anti-tank missile systems to support U.S. allies.
Javelin Joint Venture will produce 2,100 Javelin FGM-148F missiles to replace the existing block I Javelin FGM-148E missiles, Lockheed said Wednesday.
The award comes after the F-model missile completed system qualification assessments including 21 test flights.
JJV is also developing an FGM-148G Model missile and Lightweight Command Launch Unit in an effort to address a missile defense system requirement.
The venture aims to deliver the weapons to foreign allies by early 2020, with permission from the U.S. government.
Javelin FGM-148F is a portable fire-and-forget missile system with an advanced multipurpose warhead designed to heavily impact light armored vehicles and soft targets.
