Pat Tamburrino, vice president of health markets at LMI, told Government Matters in a video interview aired Thursday about the need to increase satisfaction among clinicians and its addition as another piece to the “triple aim” in the health care field.

He said the “triple aim” consists of three pieces and those are to improve patient outcomes, improve the population health and reduce cost.

“Then we introduced the fourth piece which is to increase staff satisfaction because if clinicians are not happy and they are not engaged, you are not going to get the other pieces,” Tamburrino told host Francis Rose.

“So if you look at the convergence, now the issue with things such as electronic health record is how do you get the clinician fully engaged with the technology in a way that makes their job a lot simpler and makes them much more effective.”

He cited the role of technology in enabling health care personnel.

“There’s always a shortage of nurses and other clinicians so the conversation has to be: how is technology going to enable our workforce to be more efficient and more effective. If you don’t get those clinicians involved, it’s going to be a real challenge,” he noted.

Tamburrino called on the government to look at any major information technology modernization program and try to gain insights and lessons from those types of initiatives.
