Exquadrum has partnered with Dynetics to develop and demonstrate a ground-based system for launching hypersonic boost glide weapons as part of a joint Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency-U.S. Army program.

Dynetics said Thursday the team aims to build a weapons delivery platform through the Operational Fires Propulsion System program under a potential two-year, $15.1M contract awarded to Exquadrum.

The OpFires initiative seeks a technology that would allow hypersonic weapons to penetrate enemy air defenses and deter high-speed targets.

Exquadrum will oversee the development and demonstration of the partnership’s propulsion system technologies while Dynetics will help design, engineer and integrate an operational booster, as well as develop booster avionics and controls.

Aerojet Rocketdyne and Sierra Nevada Corp. will also support the OpFires project under separate contracts announced in November. DARPA expects selected contractors to test systems sometime in 2022.
