Industry executives at the 2018 Kratos Global Users Conference discussed some of the trends in the satellite telecommunications sector and cited the need for companies to adapt to such trends to thrive, Via Satellite reported Monday.
Some of the trends discussed include the drop in bandwidth prices and commoditization of satellite hardware.
“It’s beginning to make the satellite less important,†Phil Carrai, president of technology and training division at Kratos Defense & Security Solutions, said of the factors that now shape the satcom industry.
“If you have that much capacity and the satellites are reconfigurable then the real activity must be in the network; if you’re going to differentiate versus the competition it’s got to be on the ground side,†Carrai added.
Other executives who spoke at the conference include Thierry Guillemin, former executive vice president and chief technical officer at Intelsat, and Stuart Daughtridge, VP of advanced technology at Kratos.
