Mei Zhou, a Dell EMC business development executive, said the company is collaborating with network equipment carriers and manufacturers for the 5G transition effort.

nn

Zhou said during the National Training and Simulation Association’s Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference in Orlando, Fla., that a 5G network will result in lower latency and enable large amounts of data to be transmitted via a higher bandwidth, National Defense reported Thursday.

nn

She added that the network will allow users to collect data in real-time and integrate them with historical information to establish a holistic approach, a feature that will be useful for developing artificial intelligence systems.

nn

Zhou cited additional 5G benefits, including better electromagnetic spectrum management and significant support for automated vehicles and unmanned platforms.

nn

Verizon Wireless has completed 5G testing and reported that download speeds were 30 to 50 times faster in 5G compared to 4G downloads.

nn

The 5G network is slated for launching in the U.S. in 2020.
