Charles River Analytics Scientist Highlights FHWA-Funded Motorcyclist Safety Tech Project - top government contractors - best government contracting eventMichael Jenkins, senior scientist at Charles River Analytics, discussed the company’s efforts to develop an augmented reality display through a Federal Highway Administration-funded project aimed at hazard awareness for motorcyclists.

He delivered a presentation about the BARRACUDA initiative at the third-annual meeting of the FHWA’s Motorcyclist Advisory Council last month, Charles River said Thursday.

The system is designed to collect and integrate data from public databases as well as on-motorcycle and environmental sensors. It will also employ probabilistic models and reasoning methods intended to generate route-based hazard alerts in real time.

“Connected vehicle and infrastructure technology will revolutionize roadway safety,” Jenkins said.

“However, connectivity must be extended to all shared roadway users, especially vulnerable users such as motorcyclists, to reach the shared Vision Zero safety goal,” he added.

MAC hosted the meeting to gather potential recommendations for the Department of Transportation to manage infrastructure safety for riders and potential approaches to implement modern transportation systems into the country’s roadways.
