General Atomics’ aeronautical systems business has selected CAE to build a system for the U.K air force to train operators of the Protector RG Mk1 remotely piloted aircraft.

CAE said Thursday it will equip the synthetic training system with desktop and high-fidelity mission trainers based on a General Atomics-made ground control station, as well as provide brief/debrief and scenario generation terminals.

Gene Colabatistto, president of CAE's defense and security group, the company will apply its previous experience in the development of high-fidelity training devices for Predator RPA platform to the Protector program.

The Royal Air Force expects to receive initial synthetic training systems in 2020. RAF Waddington in England will serve as the main operating base for the unmanned Protector aircraft.
