The government of Baltimore, Md., has partnered with Amazon Web Services to develop cloud computing tools for the city's entrepreneurs and residents to access public services.

Baltimore intends to support local businesses in efforts to create medical technology, public health mobile applications and financial wellness services through AWS CloudStart program, the company said Friday.

CloudStart offers education and training resources for economic development organizations and help EDOs leverage cloud technology to serve agencies, educational institutions and nonprofits.

Mayor Catherine Pugh's Office of Small, Minority and Women Business Development and the Baltimore Development Corporation's Emerging Technology Centers have selected 40 businesses to participate in the program.

AWS conducted three information sessions to discuss the advantages of cloud technology with local startup owners and small business owners.

"Cloud computing has many adaptable uses in the public sector, and we look forward to exploring and mobilizing how we use these tools to help entrepreneurs and residents access opportunities and resources in Baltimore," Pugh said.
