AWS’ Brett McMillen, Leidos’ Keith Johnson on How Federal Gov’t Can Make Cloud-Based Data Usable - top government contractors - best government contracting event

Brett McMillen of Amazon Web Services and Keith Johnson of Leidos discussed in an article published Tuesday on Federal News Network the presence of data in the cloud and how to leverage data to build up citizen services.

“The question is how do you make that data usable, not only for the agency that collected it but throughout the agencies of the federal government? … It should be available to commercial entities and citizens,” said McMillen, director of federal government at AWS.

McMillen noted that AWS works to help agencies use analytics and find ways to share data with other organizations.

Johnson, chief technology officer of defense and intelligence business areas at Leidos, discussed how data stored in a shared resource like cloud offers agencies an opportunity to improve the lives of civilians.

“Data is the lifeblood and currency of future innovation and the future marketplace we’re going to live in,” Johnson said.

“The federal government plays a really important role in not just generating data but [from a policy perspective] determining how best to secure and store that data so only the right kinds of individuals can access it,” he added.
