Lt. Gen. David Thompson, vice commander of U.S. Air Force Space Command, has said AFSPC plans to use its acquisition authorities to accelerate procurement of three technology platforms, National Defense Magazine reported Friday.
Thompson noted he looks to shorten the acquisition timeline for virtual reality-based pilot training systems, a space battle management command and control platform and next-generation overhead persistent infrared satellites.
Congress granted the Defense Department authorities under the 2016 National Defense Authorization Act's Section 804 in a move to address bureaucracy that lawmakers believe has impacted DoD's procurement system.
