The Air Force Life Cycle Management Center has teamed up with the Advanced Tactical Acquisition Corps to equip fixed-wing aircraft personnel with modernized helmets in a move to meet present technological requirements.
AFCLMC provided grants worth $600K to three firms through the AFWERX Vergas organization for the development and presentation of prototype helmets, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base said Tuesday.
"Our goal is to find a helmet that is lighter, has more stability and is compatible with fixed-wing aircraft and equipment," said Naomi Harper, a program manager at AFLCMC's human systems division.
Michael DeRespinis, a program manager at AFLCMC's human systems division, said the partnership the partnership with AFWERX helped the command accelerate the prototyping process for the helmets.
DeRespinis added that the division seeks to select and award the helmet contract in September to facilitate mass production.
