Dominic Delmolino, chief technology officer at Accenture’s federal services business, has said the government is likely to make information technology modernization its top priority in 2019.

“In today’s complex and dynamic environment, IT must lead the way. The relationship between technology and mission outcomes has never been stronger,” he told Nextgov in an interview published Wednesday.

Delmolino added that federal IT leaders may work with industry partners and explore the potential and limitations of technologies to protect their agencies from emerging threats.

“As we move into 2019, we believe technology modernization will be the No. 1 priority for federal government agencies in the year ahead,” the Accenture CTO said.

The company is working on several IT-related projects for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

Accenture Federal Services currently holds a spot on a $2.5B IT services contract with SEC, a separate blanket purchase agreement to support the agency’s cloud-based ServiceNow platform, and another award to manage digital user experience on the SEC website.
