Report: Defense Industrial Base Review Offers Key Insights to GovCon Firms - top government contractors - best government contracting eventA 140-page review of the defense industrial base provides key takeaways for government contractors and one of those points is the need to work with the Pentagon to leverage existing tools to reduce risks to the supply chain, National Defense reported Thursday.

The industrial base report sheds light on the U.S. government’s procurement policies and business practices and how contractors could help introduce reforms to the acquisition process through congressional engagement and participation in the rulemaking process.

An interagency task force led by the Department of Defense suggested that GovCon firms should continue efforts to protect weapons systems and other defense platforms from cyber attacks.

The task force also recommended that the U.S. should work with allies through the National Technology and Industrial Base and other constructs to address risks posed by China and other competitor nations.

Another key takeaway from the report is the potential impact of budget uncertainty and sequestration on investments and military’s modernization and readiness efforts.
