Rebecca Cowen-Hirsch of Inmarsat Government has said industry and military leaders have initiated several space-related measures in 2018 meant to establish a resilient, global and integrated satellite communication architecture.

Those actions include the fiscal 2018 National Defense Authorization Act, National Defense Strategy and the Joint Space Operations Center’s transition to the Combined Space Operations Center, Cowen-Hirsch, senior vice president for government strategy and policy at Inmarsat Government, wrote in a MilsatMagazine article.

She noted that the U.S. government acknowledges the importance of space resilience and strategic space leadership via commercial satcom’s support through FY 2018 NDAA.

“The establishment of the Commercial Integration Cell within the CSpOC has enabled the government to explore ways of sharing technology and information, as well as an increase in integration, space situational awareness and collaborative operations with commercial partners,” she said.

Cowen-Hirsch mentioned the formation of a new program of record for commercial satcom and discussed how such an action recognizes comsatcom as an “integral part” of a unified satcom architecture.

She also shared her thoughts on the final report on management and organizational structure for the Pentagon’s national security space components.
