Lockheed Martin has provided three-year, $300K grant to support the establishment of a second advanced manufacturing training center at Valencia College in Orlando.
The company said Friday it made the investment as part of efforts to help grow the city’s pipeline of high-technology professionals.
“With major contract wins over the past several years, we’ve been able to add additional employment opportunities and economic stability to the area,” said Michael Williamson, vice president of Lockheed’s missiles and fire control business.
The University of Central Florida received a separate $1.5M grant from the company last month to build a cyber innovation lab.
Lockheed has also awarded $10K each to 200 engineering and computer science students through a nationwide scholarship program that supports individuals who need financial assistance and come from underserved or underrepresented communities.
The company broke ground on a $50M research and development facility in Orlando and said it will hire as many as 1,800 employees over the next two years.
