Intelsat General has introduced a broadband service offering intended to help military aircraft passengers connect to the internet while in flight.
FlexAir uses the company’s Ku-band and EpicNG communications satellite platforms and is designed to operate with fuselage and tail-mounted antennas, Intelsat said Thursday.
The in-flight connectivity service works to support intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance applications such as sensor data processing, video transmission, and communications transmission.
Skot Butler, president of Intelsat General, said the company developed FlexAir to help address broadband and mobility requirements of government aircraft operators.
The offering is designed to offer internet access at a speed of up to 3 megabits per second from a plane with an option to increase the connectivity rate to 6 Mbps.
