Dewberry will lead an industry team to complete a mapping project in Florida using airborne light detection and ranging technology under a potential $20M contract from the U.S. Geological Survey.
The company said Wednesday it will collaborate with seven industry partners to collect lidar, survey the ground and prepare digital elevation models and bare earth point cloud products for the state’s storm preparation, response and recovery efforts.
Team members include Digital Aerial Solutions, Quantum Spatial and Woolpert.
USGS and the Florida Division of Emergency Management will fund the project as part of disaster management initiatives of federal and state agencies.
The project aims to acquire quality level 1 data within an area of more than 34K square miles for use in hydrologic and hydraulic modeling efforts as well as engineering applications at water management districts in order to mitigate the impact of floods.
Dewberry noted USGS and the Federal Emergency Management Agency also plan to use the data to conduct flood research.
