Blue Origin‘s New Shepard rocket is scheduled to launch Tuesday and carry nine NASA-backed research and technology payloads into space as part of the agency’s Flight Opportunities program.
The NS-10 mission will mark the space vehicle’s 10th launch and the second time the company will fly a Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory experiment, Blue Origin said Monday.
APL’s EM Field payload will work to collect data on electromagnetic fields that is expected occur both inside and outside a launch vehicle during flight.
The lab hopes the experiment will help determine how global measurements of the Earth’s electromagnetic field can be conducted in the future.
The other payloads aboard New Shepard aim to measure fuel levels in microgravity using sound waves, determine ways to reduce vibration during flight, test an electronics cooling tool, understand fuel’s behavior in microgravity and improve biological research on suborbital missions.
