Steve Isakowitz, president and CEO of Aerospace Corp., has said adopting a flexible architecture can help the U.S. military and industry update satellites with a new payload or augment constellations, SpaceNews reported Monday.
He told the publication in an interview the government should use an enterprise-level approach and simplify the decision-making process to manage the country’s space missions.
“Everyone is trying to stuff more requirements into one satellite, and making it more expensive,” said Isakowitz.
“What we need to do is reverse that trend, go back to shorter lived satellites, more proliferated, in constellations where we have more opportunity for tech insertion,” he added.
The Department of Defense tapped the nonprofit company earlier this year to offer recommendations on how to address space-related threats.
Aerospace looks to propose a method for companies and agencies to increase the resilience of space systems through a series of meetings.
