Kratos Defense & Security Solutions has landed a potential $29M contract to build technology prototypes, subsystems and components for the U.S. Army‘s directed energy system modernization initiative.
The company said Wednesday it aims to help advance DE platforms intended to help the Army Space and Missile Defense Command and Army Forces Strategic Command perform counter-rocket, artillery, mortar, drone, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions.
The contract will include the development of high-energy laser, beam control, adaptive optics, illumination and targeted tracking and sensing platforms.
Dave Carter, president of the defense and rocket support services division at Kratos, said the company seeks to support to the Army in the branch’s DE technology advancement and development efforts.
Contract work will take place at multiple contractor and government facilities across Huntsville, Ala.
