Jason Kalirai, formerly project scientist and strategic development lead at the Space Telescope Science Institute, has joined Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory as mission area executive for civil space programs.
APL said Thursday Kalirai is responsible for the lab’s work on NASA and international space missions that include exploration, research, technology development and spacecraft and scientific instrument production.
He previously managed STScI’s partnership with NASA to maximize scientific productivity of the Hubble and James Webb Space telescopes as well as conducted astrophysics research efforts.
A research group leader and mentor, Kalirai has authored more than 100 papers in multiple peer-reviewed publications and advocates for science, technology, engineering and math education initiatives.
