Huntington Ingalls Industries has selected Triumph Group to manufacture remote valve actuation systems required for the modernization of a U.S. Navy Nimitz-class nuclear-powered aircraft carrier.
Triumph said Wednesday its integrated systems business will supply 165 actuators from the company’s mechanical solutions facility in Shelbyville, Ind., for installation on the USS George Washington, or CVN-73.
HII will modernize the carrier’s systems under a potential $2.8B contract the Navy awarded in September of last year.
RMVA systems help crews remotely open and close valves within a ship and Triump noted its technology works to accommodate rapid configurations on vessels.
