The Naval Air Systems Command has chosen Hughes Network Systems to integrate satellite communications systems on C-27J aircraft used for the U.S. Coast Guard‘s humanitarian aid and disaster relief efforts.
The company said Monday it will partner with Virginia-based procurement and logistics firm ADS, Inc. to provide satcom integration services to support the Coast Guard’s HADR-focused intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance operations that require airborne communications-on-the-move technology.
Hughes will perform beyond-line-of-sight system integration services for the C-27J’s communications hardware as part of efforts to connect mobile units across large geographic areas spanning the U.S., Canada, Mexico and the Pacific Ocean.
The company will also provide technical training and engineering services under the agreement.

The satcom integration initiative aims to support the Coast Guard’s multi-mission operations such as search and rescue efforts, drug interdictions and border control enforcement.
