Fujifilm Medical Systems USA's Picture Archiving Tech Obtains Authority to Operate From DoD - top government contractors - best government contracting eventFujifilm Medical Systems USA has secured a risk management framework-based authority-to-operate from the Defense Department to run the Synapse 5 picture archiving and communication system on the department’s networks.

The company said Wednesday DoD ruled after a 14-month review that Synapse 5 PACS meets security controls stated in RMFs, which include the DoD 8500 Series and Security and Technical Implementation Guides requirements.

Johann Fernando, chief operating officer of Fujifilm Medical Systems USA, said obtaining the ATO shows that the company’s offering adheres to the federal government’s security standards.

The authorization has a validity period of three years.

The Madigan Army Medical Center based in Joint Base Lewis-McChord will be one of the first U.S. Army facilities that will operate Synapse 5 PACS.

Fujifilm also holds an ATO for its Synapse PACS 4.4 offering, among others.

Synapse 5 is designed to provide users on-demand access to large data sets, as well as the ability to interact with the data to accelerate the delivery of healthcare services.
