The FBI uses an Amazon Web Services-hosted cloud computing environment to process classified and unclassified data for counterterrorism investigations, Nextgov reported Thursday.
The bureau adopted cloud technology nearly two years ago in response to data-related concerns.
Teresa Carlson, vice president of AWS’ global public sector business, said the company’s platform offers FBI access to big data analytics and other services intended to support national security efforts.
AWS helps government customers manage classified data through the C2S cloud and sensitive unclassified information via the GovCloud US East and West regions.
The report said FBI also intends to use the Amazon Rekognition service for video surveillance efforts.
