The Energy Department has chosen 11 industry-led projects across six states to receive $18M in federal grants to advance commercial nuclear technology platforms.
DOE said Tuesday the funding awards are part of the third round of its funding opportunity announcement, titled “U.S. Industry Opportunities for Advanced Nuclear Technology Development.”
The cost-shared projects have a total value of $25M and include participants from public and private laboratories, federal agencies and academic institutions.
“Nuclear energy plays an increasingly important role in reaching our country’s clean energy and economic goals,†said Energy Secretary Rick Perry.
“These awards are prime examples of the private-public partnerships needed to help successfully develop and deploy innovative domestic nuclear technologies.â€
DOE divided the solicitation into three pathways that aim to demonstrate complex nuclear plant systems, commercialize advanced reactor platforms and address technology design regulatory issues.
