Arizona State University and Amazon Web Services have partnered to address community limitations in the Phoenix area through the use of cloud technologies.
The partnership will establish the ASU Smart City Cloud Innovation Center to support smart city designers, generate options for technology alternatives, boost economic development and facilitate distribution of government technologies across the region, ASU said Thursday.
John Rome, deputy chief information officer at ASU, said city planners, health care administrators and ASU faculty members are looking to address challenges related to autonomous vehicle governance, urban resilience, education and health care management.
Among possible projects is a street-lighting system to be installed throughout the Phoenix area.
“We’ll standardize the processes and data collection from streetlight sensors so that city planners can integrate information from individual communities to formulate possible regionwide implementation plans,” Rome said.
The center will begin operations early next year.
