Apple and the Department of Veterans Affairs are in talks to develop tools to help approximately nine million former service members access electronic health records with the use of iPhones, The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday.
The report said Apple also offered to provide engineering support to the department through the proposed partnership.
The technology firm aims to produce mobile software for military veterans to import and share medical data with other healthcare-related applications designed to offer information about clinical services such as automated medication refills.
Apple reportedly first discussed its plans with the VA in early 2017 in a push to tap millions of potential new customers in the $3.2T healthcare market.
The company introduced heart-monitoring and fall-detection features on its smartwatch product earlier this year.
