The U.S. Air Force‘s Program Executive Office Digital has started employing cloud-hosted software systems to allow acquisition authorities to share workflows in real time with contractors and streamline data reviewing processes.
The Wright-Patterson Air Force Base said Friday PEO Digital has adopted review, co-authoring and redaction tools that act like social media platforms for documents on government systems to help acquisition officials go through a huge amount of data.
Louis Coco, a support contractor for PEO Digital’s Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System Recapitalization program, said projects are often at risk of delays due to them containing large volumes of data, which could lead to a queue of documents stuck in the review phase and make contractors miss deadlines.
“Without a vector check from the government, the contractor assumes a conditional acceptance and moves forward, assuming they are on the right track,†he added.
Coco and his team are distributing the document review tools to various agencies, but the applications will only work for already refined workflows.
Yoed Cameron Santos, acquisition program manager at Hanscom AFB, said the tools can only automate business processes that are already functional but still leverage outdated systems or practices.
The U.S. Navy is working on procuring the same acquisition processing tools to simplify the review processes for classified documents with the Defense Information Systems Agency.
