Northrop to Update Computers in Air Force's E-8C Joint STARS Fleet; Jane Bishop Quoted - top government contractors - best government contracting event

Northrop Grumman has secured a $17.5M delivery order to update central computers in the U.S. Air Force‘s E-8C Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System aircraft.

The company said Wednesday it will perform fifth-generation computer upgrade on 16 E-8C units as part of a fleet capability enhancement effort as the service builds a new advanced battle management system.

Jane Bishop, vice president of manned airborne surveillance programs at Northrop, said the company will equip the Joint STARS mission system with Linux-based technology.

Bishop added the partnership has completed more than 25 battle management tools for the service branch over the past 15 years.

E-8C is built to help military commanders view situational data in real time and deliver target locations to military aircraft and ground strike forces.

Northrop produced and delivered its final Joint STARS production unit in 2005.
