Northrop Grumman has showcased a missile warhead technology designed to help military customers counter targets such as ground vehicles and aircraft platforms.
The company said Thursday its new warhead uses an updated Lethality Enhanced Ordnance fragmentation mechanism and a penetration capability while minimizing risk of collateral damage.
Pat Nolan, vice president and general manager of missile products at Northrop, said the company designed the technology for potential use in military missile programs to help warfighters perform missions on the battlefield.
The warhead design, development and test processes occurred in less than seven months.
Northrop noted its LEO approach employs a modeling optimization tool built to correlate data in real-world settings and predict the performance of a weapon system.
