Northrop Announces OmegA Rocket Development Milestones; Mike Laidley Quoted - top government contractors - best government contracting eventNorthrop Grumman has completed development and testing work on the OmegA rocket’s first and second stage components.

The company said Friday it also concluded the rocket’s cryostage design and developmental testing phase as well as the preliminary design of the launch system.

Northrop reported the recent milestones days after it secured a potential $791.6M other-transaction agreement from the U.S. Air Force to build the OmegA rocket.

OmegA will serve as the capstone launch system in Northrop’s fleet of rockets and will come in intermediate- and heavy-class configurations to support the launch of national security payloads.

“We are proud to partner with the Air Force as we move forward with the next phase in developing the OmegA,” said Mike Laidley, OmegA program vice president at Northrop.

The company intends to subject the rocket’s first and second stages to ground tests next year and in 2020 with plans for an initial flight in 2021.
