A Raytheon-built air and missile defense radar has identified multiple targets during a recent test held at the U.S. Navy‘s Pacific Missile Range Facility in Kauai, Hawaii.
AN/SPY-6(V) worked to identify, track and intercept threats simultaneously, as well as intercepted a ballistic missile target, the company said Wednesday.
The test followed two different exercises that took place in mid-September near the range.
Raytheon currently produces the radar at a company facility in Andover, Mass.
The company began to develop AN/SPY-6(V) in 2014 and aims to deliver the technology to the Navy later this year for installation on the future USS Jack H. Lucas, the first Flight III guided missile destroyer of the service’s Arleigh Burke class.
