Mitre has collaborated with the Food and Drug Administration to create a guide for health care delivery organizations to prepare for and respond to security breaches involving medical technology platforms.
The Medical Device Cybersecurity Regional Incident Preparedness and Response Playbook is designed to help HDOs, such as hospitals, produce a framework that would cover device inventory and information baseline development processes, Mitre said Monday.
The nonprofit company also incorporated recommendations from researchers, state health departments and medical equipment suppliers into the guide.
John Kreger, vice president of public service programs at Mitre’s Center for Programs and Technology, said the organization applied its expertise at federally funded research and development centers as well as independent research efforts in the cyber and homeland security areas when creating the playbook.
“The FDA recognized the need to work with the HDO and hospital community to provide guidance on how to help minimize the cybersecurity risks associated with medical devices,†Kreger added.
