Iridium Communications CEO Matt Desch has said the company “synergistic†relationship with SpaceX and the latter’s launch vehicle helped bring the seven batches of communications satellites into space, The Hill reported Friday.
“I don’t think we would have been able to get these 75 new satellites into space over the last two years if it hadn’t been for the cost effective transport system that SpaceX has created,†Desch told Hill.TV’s Rising program hosts Buck Sexton and Krystal Ball.
Iridium plans to launch on Dec. 30 the final set of Iridium NEXT satellites aboard a SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket.
Desch also noted about commercial companies venturing into the space market and its impact on ground communication networks.
“A lot of things are connecting that had never been connected before, so we think about autonomous cars, vehicles and drones and those sorts of things,†he added.
