Juan Zarate, chairman and cofounder of strategic advisory company Financial Integrity Network, officially joined Northwestern Mutual on Sept. 24 as a member of the financial security firm’s board of trustees.
“Juan brings a critical perspective about the environment in which financial companies operate and thrive,” John Schlifske, Northwestern Mutual chairman, president and CEO, said in a statement published Thursday.
“We look forward to having his expertise on our board as we transform to become even more relevant to our clients’ needs,” Schlifske added.
Zarate is chairman of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies’ Center on Sanctions and Illicit Finance and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
He serves as a senior national security analyst for MSNBC and NBC News and a board member of the Vatican’s Financial Information Authority.
Zarate has authored books and articles on natural security and foreign policy and has been a senior adviser at the Center for Strategic and International Studies and a visiting lecturer at the Harvard Law School.
