The Department of Health and Human Services has awarded Emerging Sun a contract of an undisclosed value to conduct a research project with the goal of modernizing the Indian Health Service’s information technology systems.
HHS said Wednesday Pistis and the Regenstrief Institute will support the multistage effort over the next year as subcontractors to Emerging Sun.
The team will work to evaluate the state of health IT platforms across the IHS network and identify clinical, process and technical gaps that affect care delivery.
IHS offers medical services to approximately 1.6M American Indians and Alaska Natives who live near reservation and tribal areas.
Emerging Sun will aim to ensure priorities align with research findings, HHS noted.
The department added the project will include an analysis of alternatives such as commercial product adoption, technological model advancement or a blend of the two approaches.
