FLIR has launched a new reconnaissance system designed to allow for autonomous performance of the Black Hornet 3 unmanned aircraft system from military vehicles.
The Black Hornet Vehicle Reconnaissance System works to remotely provide situational awareness, detect threats, assess battle damage and generate targeting information for in-vehicle users of the nano-UAS, the company said Monday.
The VRS mounts on and operates from any military vehicle such as armored personnel carriers and infantry fighting vehicles.
Multiple units of the Black Hornet 3 may connect and launch from the system, which also works jointly with battlefield management platforms.
The VRS builds on the Black Hornet Personal Reconnaissance System that provides autonomous UAS support for deployed troops.
Flir is demonstrating the VRS and the complementary Black Hornet 3 UAS at the AUSA 2018 event taking place Oct. 8 to 10 in Washington, D.C.
