Amazon Web Services has sponsored a hackathon event in Washington, D.C., that challenged 16 teams to demonstrate the impacts of diplomatic activities using participants’ data visualization skills.
AWS announced Thursday it provided technology, credits, expertise and system architects to the 24-hour ImpactHack event jointly hosted by the State Department‘s U.S. Diplomacy Center and the World Resources Institute.
The winning team produced an interactive map – My State, My State Department — that links diplomacy’s impact on local communities and a game that allows users to determine their diplomacy skills.
The second placer created the Data Ambassadors map showing a historical timeline of how diplomacy emerged in the country and the third placer developed the Global Movement map illustrating the factors that have influenced the rate of a country’s refugees.
The Diplomacy Center will use projects from the hackathon to produce exhibit prototypes.
