Lockheed Martin has integrated modern signals intelligence mechanisms into the U.S. Air Force’s intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance system using agile development approaches.
The company said Tuesday it modernized the Distributed Common Ground System to support airmen in performing intelligence operations worldwide, as well as allow the ISR platform to provide centralized processing and remote support services.
The modernization effort will possibly provide cost savings in support contracts and additional investments in new features for the USAF system, Lockheed said.
“For DCGS, we worked with the Air Force to provide a spiral-based agile development and integration model leading to ‘continuous integration – continuous delivery’,†said Rob Smith, vice president of C4ISR and unmanned aerial systems at Lockheed.
DCGS is designed to gather data from sensors on manned and unmanned ISR platforms to produce actionable military intelligence.
Agile development approaches include best practices such as stream mapping and increased automation, Lockheed noted.
