Iridium Communications has partnered with Amazon Web Services to develop a cloud-based satellite platform designed to advance the adoption of internet-of-things applications and services.
Iridium said Thursday it plans to launch in 2019 the Iridium CloudConnect service that will work to provide worldwide coverage for AWS’ IoT applications through its satellite network.
CloudConnect “will allow existing AWS customers to keep everything the same on the back end, while opening up the opportunity to quickly expand their coverage,” said Iridium CEO Matt Desch.
The cloud-based service will work to enable AWS IoT service users to reach at least 80 percent of the globe lacking cellular coverage.
Iridium said it has signed up for the AWS Partner Network as part of the collaboration.
