Asha Keddy, a group vice president at Intel, has urged the Federal Communications Commission to authorize the use of mid-band spectrum for 5G wireless systems.
“FCC must expeditiously establish the rules to open new bandwidth for 5G use in this crucial spectrum,” Keddy wrote in an opinion piece published Thursday on The Hill.
“This is a make-or-break moment for America.”
She noted that 4G device and equipment manufacturers need a regulatory environment that can support their investments to modernize communications infrastructure.
According to Keddy, the 5G network is projected to bring up to five times greater economic impact than 4G over the next decade and create new opportunities for industry to develop networking, artificial intelligence, data analytics and robotic platforms.
