Shaun Bierweiler, vice president of Hortonworks‘ U.S. public sector business, has said he observed agencies tapping into internet-of-things platforms to store, process and compute data from multiple sources, MeriTalk reported Tuesday.
He noted the Census Bureau has implemented handheld devices to support its digital information gathering process and the General Services Administration has adopted sensors to collect information about the performance of federal building energy systems.
Bierweiler added that agencies should factor security into their efforts to adopt an IoT-based data architecture or platform.
