Karl Tappert, vice president of Army C4ISR systems at General Dynamics’ information technology business, has said the company aims to help the service maintain sensors, radars and night vision devices through the Integrated Base Defense – Sustainment Support program.
He wrote in a blog entry posted Friday the IBD-SS program is meant to centralize management and sustainment of the service’s force protection equipment, increase system availability and address duplication.
Tappert noted that adoption of a single off-the-shelf database would allow the Army to visualize system performance and obtain insights from data to enhance situational awareness.
“For IBD SS, this would provide a unique new capacity to drill down on individual systems and locations – from many different perspectives,” he said of the visualization tool.
He added a central visualization platform will work to help a regional commander view the security posture of military installations under his purview and a field service professional to keep tabs on repairs and modifications to a platform in the past year.
