The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency has chosen Descartes Labs to build a technology platform designed to store geospatial imagery and machine learning tools for data analysis.
Descartes Labs said Wednesday it will provide the cloud-based infrastructure for the agency to create applications as part of the Geospatial Cloud Analytics program and offer the apps to data scientists via a commercial marketplace.
The company aims to integrate up to 75 partner-sourced datasets into the platform.
DARPA introduced the GCA program in efforts to help Defense Department geospatial analysts obtain situational awareness as well as detect, monitor and track events that can aid military missions worldwide.
The contract has a $2.9M base value and a $4.2M option for a second-phase work.
